Corporate Overview

Black Slate is a leading Twin Cities-based software development consulting firm and the largest combined software consulting and developer training company in Minnesota. Local entrepreneur Tom Salonek founded the company in 1991.

Black Slate designs and develops software solutions for state government and mid-sized corporations. The company also creates pre-packaged software that powers Fortune 500 businesses and systems for state government. Black Slate works with NASA, Wells Fargo, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, and Intel and other major companies worldwide, helping them learn and use technology.

Leadership

A typical Black Slate engagement involves leadership in thought, process, and teams. With our consulting and training staff tasked to maintain an ever-changing understanding of the newest technologies, each member of Black Slate must exhibit leadership and keen decision- making. At Black Slate, everyone must lead. Black Slateʼs leadership team has a practical approach and a proven record of success.

Philanthropy

In 2003, Black Slate, Inc. formed the Black Slate Foundation, a nonprofit (501) private foundation for the provision of financial support to families of terminally ill children. Tom Salonek, his wife Linda, and Black Slate partner Ryan McCabe comprise the Black Slate Foundation board. Its charter calls for grants to be presented to Minnesota families who need financial assistance to fulfill last wishes, as well as help with costs associated with hospitalization, respite care, and other considerations.

Since 2003, Black Slate has contributed over $175,000 to the Black Slate Foundation. The Black Slate Foundation works with Crescent Cove, located in Minneapolis, MN, and other services, making grants to families with terminally ill children.

In addition, through the foundation, Black Slate offers STEM scholarships to exceptional graduating high school seniors on their way to high education and a field in computer science. STEM Scholarship details can be found here.
